About Tepotzotlan

In 2002, Tepotzotlan was declared “Magical Village” by the Federal Tourism Department, the first in the State of Mexico and one of the first ones in all Mexico. Tepotzotlan is located 45 km from Mexico City by the Mexico City-Queretaro highway. It is situated north the state, within Mexico City urban area and in the border with the state of Hidalgo.

With no doubt, one of the city’s main attractions is the Viceroyalty National Museum, located in Hidalgo Square and which facilities were built between 1610 and 1710.

On the highway to Villa del Carbon, the tourist will find a feast of possibilities for resting and fun. La Concepcion Dam, commonly known as La Concha, is one of the most important irrigation sources in the zone, a place where visitors spend their time with fun outdoor activities.

After viviting La Concha the traveler may go to Cañadas de Cisneros, small town located in the top of a small hill where one will find the chapel dedicated to Nuestra Señora de los Angeles, and an area to practice mountain biking. San Miguel Cañadas, within Las Cabañas District, is the perfect place to perform outdoor activities or have a pic nic.

Rancho San Miguel, close to Las Cabañas, is a rural aquatic park with restaurant, bar, swimming pools, grills, camping area and large gardens. In the surroundings there is like where one can fish trouts, also craggy places to practice rock climbing and rappelling, and landscapes to practice hiking and outdoor exercise, mountain biking, horse back riding and camping.

On the left from Rancho San Miguel, it is located the small town of Dolores, that features several “jagueyes” (rain water deposits used for irrigation), where is common to see in its shores people comfortably resting, spending calm pic nic days.

Continuing on the road to Villa del Carbon, there is San Mateo Xoloc, small town
That preserves one of the oldest churches in Mexico, with more than 500 years and a decoration that includes a gold altarpiece.

Later is located El Lanzarote River, where one can find the spring of the Ahuehuete (an ancient huge tree), place where one can also perform hiking and pic nics. Finally, is highly recommended to visit Arcos del Sitio, one of the aqueducts from the colonial period, one of the tallest in the world.

Let yourself be surprised by the vast resources of a town that will kindly take care of you in your next trip to the Aztecs territory.
